IT Computing Application Specialist (Certificate)
Eastern Gateway Community College offers an IT Computing Application Specialist Program. This Associate of Applied Science Degree provides graduates with the skills necessary to design and implement software and hardware interfaces and networking of equipment with computers, computing devices and communication systems for a variety of industrial sectors including health care, law enforcement, manufacturing, logistics/transportation and other sectors. According to 2006/2007 local data sources, Application Specialists comprise one-third of all IT positions in the Northeast Ohio region. Businesses in the region want IT workers who can apply technical IT applications to the business setting.
Most important, employers are seeking workers with applied experience within a specific industry sector. This educational program incorporates industry-specific directed studies with local employers to ensure the experience required for employability. Through proper selection of industry-specific directed study and capstone courses, students will specialize in the equipment found in their chosen specific industry sector, providing them the experience necessary to enter the job market with confidence. Graduates will be proficient in both technical applications like the design, application,
installation, operation, and maintenance of computers, networks, and other digital devices and associated equipment. Additionally, 100% of regional employers identified communication, project management, team work, business etiquette, and time management as skills sets paramount to IT occupations. Along with a general electronics background, students of this program will develop technical proposals, design, implement, and present in verbal and written form, and engage in instructor approved projects to enhance the skill sets employers are seeking.
