Transfer Advising Tools

There are many tools available for advisors and students to take advantage of to help plan your transfer success.

  • Articulation Agreements: agreements between community colleges and four-year colleges and universities provide a smooth transition for transfer students from community college graduation into four-year colleges. Typically the agreements either guarantee that the associate's degree will satisfy all freshman and sophomore general education requirements at the four-year university or specify a list of courses that will be treated as equivalent, which are equivalency guides. Articulation agreements and equivalency guides help in the advising of students interested in transferring.
  • Program Articulation: Follows the same idea of the articulation agreement with added course plans for community college students to follow based on specific programs.
  • Equivalency Guide: A course-by-course listing of how courses at one institution transfer to another.
  • General Education Transfer Guide: four-year colleges and universities will create a list of courses they recommend for community college students to complete to satisfy their institutions general education curriculum.
Your advisor has access to all of the tools mentioned above. As soon as you decide you want to transfer it is imperative you work with your Eastern Gateway advisor as well as your transfer institution to ensure your transfer success.
