WELD 400 – Basic to Advanced

The WELD 400 program develops the participant’s knowledge base and skills beginning with basic Shielded Metal Arc through Pre-pipe and Pipe welding processes. Student progress in welding classes depends entirely on individual effort and ability.

Program Description: 10 weeks (400 Contact Hours)
Program Flyer
The WELD 400 training program provides hands-on training in multiple welding processes including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). Courses provide an understanding of the various welding processes and their associated applications, as well as the equipment and consumables used.

Class Schedule
Course List

Course No.   Course Name     Hrs.    Cost
WELD 102   Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Basic SMAW)   80

$1,000

WELD 201   SMAW Structural Welding - Advanced   80   $1,000
WELD 301   SMAW Pre-Pipe & Pipe - Advanced   200   $2,500
WELD 103   Basic MIG/TIG Welding (Basic MIG/TIG)   40   $500
    Total   400   $5,000

Participants will develop an in-depth understanding of essential welding requirements and techniques including:

  • electrode classification
  • weld defects
  • visual inspection
  • weld bead size
  • welding symbols
  • weld nomenclature
  • blueprint reading
  • basic metallurgy

Training is provided in all weld positions, on mild steel with single and multi-pass welds for each of the welding processes. Structural covers single V-groove welds on carbon steel with multi-pass welds in all positions with backing. Pre-pipe and Pipe advances the student into single V-groove welds with open root on carbon steel with multi-pass welds in all positions.

The Welding Program provides participants a working knowledge of the metallurgy and weld-ability of carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum, and an in-depth understanding of the key variables that affect the quality of these welds. Individuals completing this program should be prepared to perform production and maintenance welding on mild steel including high volume fabrication.

AWS and/or ASME certification
Certification testing is an integral part of this program, where participants are eligible to qualify for certification in various welding processes. Testing is done onsite. Welding certifications are performance-based; participants will progress and qualify for certifications based on individual skill.
